Lying just off the coast of South America, Margarita is a Caribbean island of Venezuela, located at the Northeast of Caracas, the country's capital, within a 35 minute flight, or a couple of hours by ferry from Puerto La Cruz or Cumana. It is one of the most tourist places in Venezuela.

Margarita Island is famous for its white sandy beaches.
It is possible to relax on the beach, and have your lobster (less than $10.00), oysters, cocktail , Fruit salad or other fresh seafood and drinks brought to you. If you would rather be active,
there are many activities to tempt
the energetic, such as:

Playa Parguito is a beach for teenagers and surf. It has restaurant, shades and less sales people than in other beach

In El Agua there are many sales people. They will offer you glasses, clothing, towels, hats, drinks (like the coconut milkshake you see at the right), oysters, ice creams, and light aeroplane trips

At one end of the beach there is a small peer where children can jump, and from where the banana trips depart. At the other end there is a dune from where you can see a small beach very with no crowds

El Agua is one of the preferred beaches is Margarita. It is large, has many palm trees, a lot of sand, food service, entertainment. There will be chairs, shades and a restaurant. Also fresh water to take a shower when leaving.

El Yaque is one of the best windsurfing places in the world (no exaggerations). Windsurf lovers come from all parts of the world looking for good wind, shallow waters and sunshine all year long.

In one of the beach's end there is a small hill with a nice view of the beach and of El Tirano. Don't miss it. One of the few quiet beaches in the north of Margarita. Located near by the Juangriego fort, it is an excellent option if you are with small children or if you like to ride a water motorcycle. At the end of the beach, the restaurant "El Sitio" is a good option to eat fish or a lobster

When you get to La Restinga after paying the National Park entry fee (Around $2), several boats will be waiting
to take you for a trip through the lagoon to the beach. Cost is around $18 for 6 persons.
When you arrive to the beach, just tell the
captain at what time you want to be picked up. Through the mangroves, the boat ride is wonderful and
it is worth it to see the excitement of young children when they see and touch live star fish, and sea horses!

After all, Margarita means Pearl in Latin
